Texas Roadhouse Croutons Recipe

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 oz day-old white or sourdough bread
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the 8 oz bread into 1-inch cubes to get about 4 cups.
  2. Whisk together the 3 tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, ½ tsp salt, and ¼ tsp pepper in a large bowl until combined, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the bread cubes and toss until evenly coated. Spread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and sprinkle with the 1 tbsp Parmesan.
  4. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18 to 22 minutes, flipping once at the halfway point, until deep golden brown and firm to the touch.
  5. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, transfer to a serving bowl, and finish with an extra grating of Parmesan if desired.

Notes

These croutons are at their best the day they are made but hold up well for 5 days in a sealed container at room temperature. If you are making them specifically for a dinner salad, bake them about an hour before you plan to eat so they are fully cool and firm by the time they hit the bowl. Using bread that is at least a day old makes a noticeable difference in the final texture.
