Taco Bell Tacos Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 4 (2 tacos per person)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
  • 3 tbsp taco seasoning blend
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 8 crunchy taco shells
  • 1 cup (85g) shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 cup (60g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup (60g) sour cream
  • 1/4 cup (65g) mild taco sauce or hot sauce

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart, until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium. Add all spices and the water. Stir to combine and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the liquid has mostly absorbed and the beef looks glossy. Season with salt to taste.
  3. Arrange the taco shells on a baking sheet and bake at 325°F (165°C) for 4 to 5 minutes until hot and toasty.
  4. Fill each warm shell with the seasoned beef, top with shredded lettuce and cheddar, then add a dollop of sour cream and a drizzle of taco sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

If you're making the spice blend from scratch, you can skip the store-bought packet entirely and just use the individual spices listed. The beef keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days, so it's worth making the full batch even if you're only cooking for 2 tonight. Always fill the shells at the last moment so they stay crisp.
