Taco Bell Sauce Recipe

Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 7 minutes
Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp sugar

Method

  1. Whisk the tomato paste and water together in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until completely smooth, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the white vinegar, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and sugar. Whisk until the spices are fully incorporated and the color is even.
  3. Simmer on medium-low for 5 minutes, stirring every minute, until the sauce coats the back of a spoon. Adjust thickness with water 1 tbsp at a time if needed.
  4. Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasoning. Cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then pour into a squeeze bottle or jar and drizzle over tacos or burritos.

Notes

This sauce tastes noticeably better after it has rested in the fridge for a few hours, so making it the evening before you need it is a good idea. If your spices are old, toast them dry in the saucepan for 30 seconds before adding the tomato paste; it makes a real difference to the final depth of flavor.
