Taco Bell Mild Sauce Recipe

Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a small saucepan and whisk together over medium-low heat for 1 minute until the spices are fully dissolved.
  2. Simmer uncovered over medium-low heat for 8 minutes, stirring every couple of minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and turns brick-red.
  3. Remove from heat, taste, and adjust salt or vinegar as needed. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer to a jar or squeeze bottle and serve.

Notes

This sauce keeps well for up to 2 weeks in the fridge and actually tastes better after the first day. If you want to dial back the heat, reduce the cayenne to 1/8 tsp before you start rather than trying to fix it at the end. For a smoother, more uniform texture, pass it through a fine mesh strainer before bottling.
