Taco Bell Meat Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1.5 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup (120ml) water

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart, until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium. Add the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste until the beef is fully coated, then pour in the water. Simmer uncovered for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is mostly absorbed and the meat is still moist.
  4. Spoon into taco shells or tortillas, top with lettuce, cheese, sour cream, onion, and jalapeƱos, and serve immediately.

Notes

This meat reheats beautifully, so it is worth making a full pound even if you are only feeding 2 people tonight. A small splash of water in the pan when reheating brings it right back to the right consistency. If your chili powder is on the mild side, taste after simmering and add a small pinch more before serving.
