Sweet Tea Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water (for brewing)
  • 3 cups cold water (for diluting)
  • 4 family-size black tea bags
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Ice, for serving
  • Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Method

  1. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan, remove from heat, add the 4 tea bags, and steep for exactly 5 minutes. Remove and discard the bags without squeezing them.
  2. Stir the 1 cup granulated sugar into the hot tea for about 1 minute until fully dissolved and the liquid looks clear.
  3. Pour the concentrate into a 2-quart pitcher and add the 3 cups cold water. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  4. Fill glasses with ice, pour the sweet tea over, garnish with a lemon slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

The tea concentrate can sit at room temperature for up to 30 minutes before you dilute it, which is handy if you are not serving right away. If you double the batch, keep the steep time and sugar ratio the same; just use a larger pot. The tea tastes noticeably better the colder it is, so chilling the pitcher before you serve is worth the extra few minutes.
