Popeyes Green Beans Recipe

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 oz bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped in half
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Cook the bacon pieces in a cold large skillet over medium heat for 7 to 9 minutes, until crisp and the fat has rendered. Do not drain.
  2. Add the diced onion to the bacon fat and cook over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes until translucent, then add the minced garlic and cook for 60 seconds.
  3. Add the green beans and toss to coat, then pour in the chicken broth and add the black pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low, cover, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until the beans are tender.
  4. Turn off the heat, stir in the butter, taste and adjust salt, then transfer to a serving dish with the bacon and remaining broth.

Notes

These beans reheat well the next day with a splash of extra broth to loosen them up. If you're using a salty bacon brand, taste before adding any salt at all. The simmer time is flexible by a few minutes — just taste a bean and if it bends without resistance, you're there.
