McDonald's Sausage Egg McMuffin Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 1 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 English muffin, fork-split
  • 3 oz ground pork (80/20)
  • 1/4 tsp fennel seeds, lightly crushed
  • 1/4 tsp dried sage
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 slice American cheese
  • 1 tsp butter

Method

  1. Mix the ground pork with the fennel seeds, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika, then press into a 4-inch round patty about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Cook the patty in a dry nonstick skillet over medium heat for 3 minutes, flip, and cook another 2 to 3 minutes until it reaches 160°F (71°C) and both sides are deep brown. Set aside.
  3. Wipe the pan, reduce to medium-low, melt the butter, and toast the English muffin halves cut-side down for 2 to 3 minutes until golden.
  4. Keep the pan over medium-low, place a wide-mouth mason jar lid or egg ring in the center, crack the egg into it, add the water beside the ring, cover, and steam for 2 minutes until the white is fully set.
  5. Place the bottom muffin half on a plate, top with the sausage patty, the steamed egg, and the slice of American cheese. Let the cheese soften for 30 seconds, press the top muffin half on, and serve immediately.

Notes

You can make a batch of seasoned raw patties ahead and keep them in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking, which cuts morning prep down to about 5 minutes. If your egg ring is slightly larger than the muffin, that's fine; the cheese and muffin top will cover any overhang. The sandwich is best eaten right away, but if you're wrapping one to go, the foil holds in enough heat to keep the cheese melted for about 10 minutes.
