Honey BBQ Wings Recipe

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 50 minutes
Total Time 1 hour
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and set a wire rack over a foil-lined baking sheet. Toss the wings with the baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Spread on the rack in a single layer.
  2. Bake for 45 minutes, flipping once at the 25-minute mark, until the skin is deep golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  3. In the last 10 minutes of baking, combine the ketchup, honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Transfer the hot wings to a large bowl, pour the warm sauce over them, and toss for 1 to 2 minutes until every piece is coated.
  5. Pile onto a platter, spoon remaining sauce over the top, and garnish with sliced scallions or a pinch of smoked paprika. Serve immediately.

Notes

These wings are best eaten right after glazing. If you're making them for a crowd, keep the baked wings warm in a low oven at 200°F (93°C) and glaze in batches just before serving. The sauce recipe scales easily: double everything for a bigger group and it holds well at room temperature for about an hour.
