Hibiscus Refresher Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 hibiscus tea bags
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup ice
  • 2 tbsp freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1/2 cup lemonade

Method
 

  1. Steep the 2 hibiscus tea bags in 1 cup boiling water for 5 minutes, pressing the bags a few times, then remove and cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine the 2 tbsp granulated sugar and 2 tbsp water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring for about 2 minutes until the sugar fully dissolves, then remove from heat.
  3. Add the 1 cup ice to a large glass, pour in the cooled hibiscus concentrate, 1 cup cold water, all of the simple syrup, and the 1/2 cup lemonade, then stir for 15 seconds.
  4. Scatter the 2 tbsp freeze-dried strawberries across the top and serve immediately.

Notes

The simple syrup can be made up to 2 weeks ahead and kept in the fridge, which makes building this drink on a weeknight take under 2 minutes. If you're making it for more than 1 person, brew a stronger concentrate by using 4 tea bags in the same 1 cup of water rather than doubling the water.
