Dunked Wings Sauce Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Melt the 2 tbsp butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the 3 cloves minced garlic and stir for 1 to 2 minutes until softened and fragrant, not browned.
  2. Add the ½ cup ketchup, 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp smoked paprika, ½ tsp cayenne pepper, ½ tsp onion powder, and 1 tbsp honey. Whisk until smooth, about 30 seconds.
  3. Raise heat to medium and simmer, stirring every minute, for 6 to 8 minutes until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon and turns a deep auburn color.
  4. Remove from heat, season with salt to taste, toss hot wings in the sauce to coat, transfer to a serving plate, spoon any remaining sauce over the top, and garnish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

This sauce can be made up to a week ahead and refrigerated. The flavor actually gets a bit rounder after a day in the jar. Toss your wings in the sauce while they're still hot off the fryer or oven so the glaze grips properly. If you're scaling the recipe up, keep a close eye during the last 2 minutes of simmering since a larger volume of sugary sauce scorches faster.
