Cracker Barrel Fried Apples Crockpot Recipe

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Total Time 3 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Granny Smith apples
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Method

  1. Peel, core, and slice the 4 lbs of Granny Smith apples into 1/2-inch wedges and toss with the 1 tbsp lemon juice in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk together the 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 tbsp cornstarch, then toss the mixture with the apples until every slice is coated.
  3. Transfer the coated apples into a 6-quart slow cooker in an even layer and scatter the 4 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces, over the top.
  4. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, checking at the 3-hour mark, until the apples are fork-tender and the glaze is bubbling.
  5. Spoon the apples into a serving bowl, drizzle the glaze over the top, and finish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon before serving warm.

Notes

These apples are best served the day they're made, but they keep well for a few days and actually taste a little richer on day two. If you're making them for a holiday dinner, you can prep and coat the apple slices the night before, store them covered in the fridge, and start the slow cooker the morning of. Don't add the butter until you're ready to cook.
