Chick-fil-A Chicken Air Fryer Copycat Recipe

Prep Time 40 minutes
Cook Time 16 minutes
Total Time 56 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup dill pickle juice
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp celery salt
  • Cooking spray

Method

  1. Slice each chicken breast in half horizontally to make 4 fillets, place in a bag or bowl with the 1 cup pickle juice, and refrigerate for 30 minutes up to 2 hours.
  2. Whisk together the 3/4 cup flour, 2 tbsp powdered sugar, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1/4 tsp celery salt in one shallow bowl. Whisk the 1/2 cup milk and 1 egg together in a second shallow bowl.
  3. Pat the brined fillets dry, dip each in the egg wash, then press firmly into the flour coating on both sides.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3 minutes. Place fillets in a single layer, spray generously with cooking spray, and air fry for 10 minutes. Flip, spray the other side, and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes until the crust is deep golden and internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Rest on a wire rack for 2 minutes, then serve on toasted brioche buns with dill pickle slices and an optional drizzle of honey.

Notes

You can brine the chicken in pickle juice the night before and keep it covered in the fridge, which makes this a very fast weeknight cook. If your fillets are thicker than 3/4 inch, add 2 minutes to the cook time and always verify 165°F (74°C) with a thermometer rather than going by color alone.
