Arby's Cherry Turnovers Recipe

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 22 minutes
Total Time 42 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet (about 17.3 oz / 490g) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 can (21 oz / 595g) cherry pie filling
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Heat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Mix the cherry pie filling, cornstarch, and almond extract in a bowl until fully combined.
  2. Unfold the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into 6 equal squares, about 4 to 5 inches each.
  3. Spoon 2 heaping tablespoons of filling onto the center of each square. Beat the egg with the water, brush the border of each square, fold diagonally into a triangle, and seal the edges firmly with a fork.
  4. Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash, cut 2 slits in each, and bake for 20 to 22 minutes until deep golden brown, rotating pans halfway through.
  5. Cool for 10 minutes, then whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract and drizzle over the turnovers. Let the glaze set for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

These are best eaten the day they are baked, while the pastry still has its crunch. If you are making them for a group, assemble them the night before and refrigerate unbaked on the sheet pan, then bake fresh in the morning. The cornstarch in the filling makes a real difference, so don't leave it out.
